How Short Courses Work

Transform, one course at a time.

The teachings are practical. Even with the most challenging subjects, you’re given a mindfulness practice for the week to help you integrate the Buddha’s teachings into your daily life. You’ll feel different–better–at the end of each course!

Basic Overview

Each Buddhist course is between four to twelve weeks long and covers one subject in-depth. Classes are conducted weekly on Zoom with the teacher, JoAnn Fox. If you can’t attend live, you can watch the recording.

Each one-hour virtual class includes:

  • optional reading material
  • a teaching on the subject
  • guided meditation
  • a mindfulness practice for daily life
  • group discussion (optional and after class)

Meditate

Each class includes a 15 to 20-minute guided meditation on the subject of the teaching.

Group discussion

After each class, there is an optional 15-minute group discussion to deepen understanding. Get to know fellow students, or ask JoAnn Fox your questions.

Practice the teaching in daily life

During each class, you’re given clear instructions on how to practice the teaching in daily life. This is your mindfulness practice for the week ahead and a powerful way the teachings transform practitioners.

Optional Ways to Deepen Understanding

Facebook Group: Join the Study Program’s private Facebook Group to discuss or share insights. JoAnn Fox also pops in to answer questions or comment.

Study together: Find refuge in your Sangha by arranging virtual discussions with fellow students, perhaps from across the ocean!

Exams: Each longer subject concludes with an optional exam. These exams are not pass or fail (but are meant to help those who find exams encourage deeper study and understanding).
